Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Index
Our Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Index discloses information in alignment with SASB’s Health Care Delivery and Medical Equipment and Supplies Standards. This is part of our commitment to provide transparent and relevant information on our economical, environmental, and social performance to our stakeholders.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Index
Our Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Index was prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards: Core option. This disclosure is part of our commitment to provide transparent and relevant information on our economic, environmental and social performance to our stakeholders.
Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Index
Using the disclosure recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the table provides information on climate-related risks and opportunities.
ESG Ratings
Fresenius Medical Care’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance is regularly assessed by rating agencies. We actively participate in the ratings and see them as an opportunity to communicate transparently about our sustainability progress.
Fresenius Medical Care takes part in CDP’s Climate Change and Water Security ratings. In 2021, we received again a “B” in CDP’s Climate Change rating and a “B-” in CDP’s Water Security rating.
The international non-profit organization CDP assesses companies based on their environmental impact disclosures. Evaluations focus on transparency in corporate reporting and actions taken on environment-related topics.
In July 2022, ISS has again awarded Fresenius Medical Care with prime status.
The ISS Corporate Rating assesses the overall sustainability performance and transparency of organizations using up to 100 industry-specific criteria.
In 2022, Fresenius Medical Care received an MSCI ESG Rating of A.
MSCI ESG Research provides MSCI ESG Ratings on global companies on a scale of AAA to CCC, according to exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and the ability to manage those risks relative to peers.

Each year, S&P Global ranks some of the world’s largest companies based on their sustainability practices. In 2021, Fresenius Medical Care was included for the 12th time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe. We are among the top 20 percent of the largest 600 European companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index. The assessments are based on criteria that are both industry-specific and financially material.
Sustainalytics has assessed Fresenius Medical Care’s ESG risk as low with a score of 19.7 (Status: May 2022). Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings measure a company’s exposure to ESG risks and the degree to which it manages those risks. Analysts highlighted the fact that Fresenius Medical Care has incorporated non-financial targets in executive compensation schemes and has allocated 20 percent of short-term incentives to sustainability.
