Acute blood purification
Offering renal care and beyond
Acute blood purification is based on extracorporeal treatment of blood and includes procedures to clean blood from toxins and pathogenic agents. Our main focus is on the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI). It is founded on continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT), an extracorporeal procedure to slowly and still effectively clean blood from uremic toxins and other nitrogenous waste by making use of its ideally continuous application. This also includes managing fluid balance by low but sustained net ultrafiltration rates. CKRT is also known as CRRT, or continuous renal replacement therapy.
Reflecting our comprehensive multi-organ support approach, we further provide products and services that allow therapy diversity beyond CKRT, extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) in certain patients with acute respiratory dysfunction syndrome as well as therapeutic plasma exchange.
In CKRT, Fresenius Medical Care is committed to Ci‑Ca regional citrate anticoagulation. We were the first to offer a comprehensive Ci‑Ca therapy concept and product range, designed to improve anticoagulation in CKRT and reduce risks of bleeding complications.
